What is a Chamber of Commerce and Why is it Important to the Business Community?
The definition of a chamber is a coalition of area businesses, industries, organizations, and professionals who pool their talents and resources to improve the economic, civic and cultural climate of their community. They are an advocate and service organization for business and provides a venue through which business professionals can take effective action for the progress and growth of their communities and businesses.
Basically, it is about working together for the betterment of your business and the other businesses in your community. It is about being a community. We are like a family – we help each other out, we promote each other, we listen and we support each other.
Did you know that you don’t have to have your business physically located within Oswego to be a part of our chamber? If you live in Oswego, do business in Oswego or want to do business in Oswego – you are welcome. Our members range from over 32 communities in and around the Oswego area. Our businesses range from non-profits to major corporations, from the home-based business to storefronts, from industrial parks to shopping centers and more.
Being a chamber member is more than just a listing on a website. The chamber offers networking opportunities, a business listing on the website & mobile app and in community guide, and the ability to promote their business through our New Resident program. We keep our members informed of new laws that are being discussed or have taken effect through emails & our Legislative Forum where you can ask a question directly to your local elected officials. Referrals and passed through the chamber website, office and leads groups.
The chamber also helps to promote special events & promotions through e-blasts and posts to our Facebook page. We’ve partnered with the surrounding chambers to offer more networking opportunities to meet like-minded businesses in and around Oswego at progressive luncheons, speed networking events, and other multi-chamber events.
