Snipe Hunting Event

This April, we invite the community to join us in a journey after the elusive snipe. Not to be confused with the common shorebird, the snipe we seek is closely related to the wild goose. Chase them through their natural areas where the pheasant-like game birds make their home. Spend the next moonless night exploring fields and forest in hopes of seeing this feathered friend. Learn to make the female snipe call from our noted Snipe Caller and Naturalist Clint Meyer. Participants are asked to bring their own flashlights. Burlap bags will be provided. All snipe fans must be accompanied by adults. The Oswegoland Park District advocates a catch and release system, so we don’t affect the fragile snipe population.
