Gaylord House Celebrates 150th Anniversary

Free Public Garden Walk May 16, 3-5pm

The Gilbert Gaylord House will be honored Saturday May 16 during a free garden walk event. Kendall County’s Historic Preservation Commission will present its first Historic Landmark Plaque to the home, which was built by prosperous farmer Gilbert Gaylord in 1865. The five-acre property is now known as Gaylord House & Gardens, a wedding and event venue. From 3-5 pm May 16, the grounds will be open to garden lovers, history buffs, architectural aficionados and families. The plaque presentation will take place at 4pm and will include architectural and historical commentary by Michael Lambert, Arris Archictects, and Roger Matile, director of the Little White School Museum. The iconic Italianate farmhouse is located four miles southeast of Oswego at 1542 Plainfield Rd., between Douglas and Ridge Roads.
