College Readiness for Junior High Students

Free Workshop Offered

Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will be partnering with Murphy Junior High to help students and parents gain insight to college planning that begins in junior high. Students and parents will learn and discuss various high school and college related topics such as practicing good study habits, high school core classes and electives, and finding the right fit in high school. Honors and AP classes as well as financial sources for college planning will also be discussed. ISAC presenter, Amanda Munoz, will conduct the workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27th at Murphy Junior High, 26923 Grande Park Blvd, Plainfield, Illinois. Munoz will share anecdotes, answer questions, and offer tips and advice about navigating the transition to high school and necessary steps to take to ensure students are college-ready. “Murphy Junior High works hard to make sure students are adequately prepared for high school and beyond. We are excited to combine this opportunity with the college/career events we have scheduled at Murphy for all students. We strongly believe it is never too early to explore opportunities beyond high school,” said Karen Whited, Guidance Counselor, at Murphy Jr. High. Huntington Learning Center in Oswego is sponsoring this free workshop. The workshop is open to the public and area junior high parents are encouraged to attend. For more information, or to register for the workshop, contact Huntington Learning Center at 630-551-4145.
